About me

Hi! Im Ria, owner and driving force behind Hanley Garden Play!

Im a busy mum of three,  with a creative background, degree in art and early years teacher trained.

My experiences of teaching coupled with quality time spent outdoors in the garden through COVID lock downs with my own children,  has led me here, doing all I can to share my passion for creative early years outdoor play and the huge benefits it brings for the development of your littles.

I look forward to meeting you in the garden!

Hanley Garden Play FAQ's

Find below the answers to some frequently asked questions about our Hanley Garden Play dates.  If you don't see the answer to your question here, just get in touch and I will  be happy to answer any further queries.

do you run in all weathers?

We run all year round, in all weathers (unless extreme weather is forecast) so please dress your littles appropriately.  Children need fresh air and time to play no matter the weather, so wrap up and layer up in winter, and wellies in the rain- puddle suits are always a good idea! We are lucky to have lots of mature trees in the garden for shade on sunnier days as well as providing a natural canopy in the rain. We also have event shelters for any sudden downpours.

Where do i park?

There are a few spaces on the driveway, once full, parking is along the roadside opposite. Please park as far over as possible without blocking the footpath. Leave a gap for the bus stop and allow a clear line of sight for crossing.

Who is responsible for my child during play?

The garden is a space for developing independence and confidence, building skills in navigating and managing risk through play- an important and essential part of child development.  With this in mind, parents/carers are fully responsible for any littles they bring to the garden and should supervise or guide where deemed necessary to keep them safe.

Is there a toilet?

There is a proper toilet with sink for hand washing for use during play dates in the garden.

are there refreshments available?

Yes! We now have the brilliant addition of the brew box in the garden where I can serve you proper freshly ground coffees, teas, hot chocolates and babyccinos for the littles!

How old does my child need to be?

Each child is different and so this depends of the individual. As soon as they are sitting confidently and exploring the world around them they will be able to access the activities in the garden at their own level of development. As they become more mobile they will be able to explore and play will start to be more independent, this generally begins to happen around age 1. Of course you are welcome to come and enjoy the garden with your baby at any age- grab a coffee and some time outdoors with fellow mums, and siblings both younger and older (KS1 school age) children are also welcome to attend during holidays.
